Oma and Opa (Olga & Adolf) immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1976. They initially moved to Montreal with aspirations of staying in the area, however, a trip to Prince Edward Island and some inclement weather had Opa stranded in the Knightville area. He fell in love with Knightville’s valley and its rolling hills which reminded him so much of Bavaria, one year later they purchased the farm across the road from our restaurant and relocated here. Along with making many upgrades to the run down farm, Opa continued on to build a saw mill and the butcher shop. Fast forward a few more years, and the restaurant which he built himself had its grand opening on December 13th 1985. Of their 11 children, 9 moved to Canada with them; of those, only two took on the business. Claudia taking the restaurant reins, and Inge at the helm of the butcher shop. Claudia’s son Lukas continued in Opa’s footsteps caring for the farm.
